Description

We’re excited to be working with a leading global organisation investing heavily in AI and building a new team to turn ambitious ideas into powerful, practical solutions. With significant backing and the freedom to innovate, they’re looking for a Lead Machine Learning Engineer to help shape this capability from the ground up. About the role You’ll build generative AI solutions, multi-agent systems and intelligent automation that help teams navigate complex information, improve workflows and make better decisions, taking ownership from initial concept through to production. As a senior individual contributor, you’ll remain deeply hands-on while shaping architecture, guiding technical decisions and mentoring engineers, with scope to develop towards principal-level technical leadership. Responsibilities - Build AI platforms from the ground up: Design and develop new ML capabilities, generative AI applications and agentic workflows that solve real business problems. - Explore what’s possible: Experiment with frontier models, RAG architectures, fine-tuning, prompt engineering and multi-agent orchestration, assessing where they can deliver meaningful value. - Take ideas beyond the prototype: Turn proofs of concept into scalable, reliable systems that people can use in their day-to-day work. - Shape the technical foundations: Influence architecture, select frameworks and establish engineering standards that support the organisation’s wider AI ambitions. - Develop production infrastructure: Build model-serving APIs, automated testing and CI/CD pipelines, supported by cloud infrastructure and robust MLOps practices. - Improve performance and reliability: Evaluate model quality, monitor deployed solutions and optimise performance, cost and operational resilience. - Share your expertise: Mentor fellow engineers and work with product teams and stakeholders to translate complex requirements into practical technical solutions. What we’re looking for - Extensive experience building and deploying production AI/ML systems, supported by strong Python development skills. - A strong grounding in machine learning and deep learning, with practical experience using frameworks such as PyTorch. - Proven experience delivering generative AI solutions, including LLM integration, RAG, agentic systems and model training or fine-tuning. - Experience designing scalable ML architectures and making technical decisions when building new platforms. - A solid understanding of MLOps, automated testing, model deployment and API development, using tools such as FastAPI. - Experience with AWS or Azure, containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, and workflow orchestration. - The ability to guide other engineers, influence technical direction and explain complex concepts to different audiences. - An inquisitive approach, a willingness to experiment and the judgement to balance new ideas with reliable delivery. - Experience with sophisticated multi-agent systems, cloud-native ML infrastructure or taking research into production would be particularly valuable. This is a great opportunity because you’ll join early enough to shape the technical direction, with the resources and investment to bring your ideas to life. You’ll tackle challenging AI problems, see your work used across a global business and grow towards principal-level technical leadership.
