Description
Director, Platform Engineering – Accelerate the SaaS transformation behind one of the world’s leading media platforms
Do you thrive at the intersection of organizational leadership, platform engineering, and SaaS transformation? Are you motivated by building teams and shared capabilities that enable other engineers to move faster, operate with greater autonomy, and deliver at scale?
At Stibo DX, we are looking for an experienced Director of Platform Engineering to lead a strategically important engineering domain and drive our transition toward SaaS.
The role
As Director of Platform Engineering, you will lead three global teams responsible for Cloud Platform, Print Platform, and Content Delivery. Together, these teams provide shared platform foundations, deployment capabilities, gateway infrastructure, APIs, and supporting services used across the Cue media enterprise platform.
Your primary mission is to accelerate the SaaS transformation. You will develop the domain into a coherent platform-engineering organization that provides standardized, reusable, and self-service capabilities, enabling application teams to deploy and operate their services without the Platform Engineering organization becoming a central delivery bottleneck.
A central part of the role is to establish clear organizational boundaries between Platform Engineering, application teams, SRE, and Operations. You will help shape a model in which Platform Engineering provides the shared foundation and developer enablement, while application teams remain accountable for the behavior, reliability, and operational outcomes of the services they build.
You will also lead the organization through this transition. Stibo DX is building toward a SaaS-first future while continuing to support self-hosted and hybrid customers. The role therefore requires someone who can balance the target state with pragmatic migration paths, preserving customer value while steadily reducing complexity and fragmentation.
Reporting directly to the CTO and serving both as a member of the Development Leadership Team and the company-wide Senior Leadership Team, you will lead a domain of 14 people and contribute to the continued development of both your domain and the wider engineering organization. The role can be based at any of our Stibo DX offices in Aarhus, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Oslo, or Málaga.
Key responsibilities
You will lead and develop a distributed engineering organization while creating the structure, capabilities, and momentum required to scale Stibo DX’s SaaS transformation. The role combines organizational leadership, platform strategy, developer enablement, and operational discipline, and requires close collaboration with Product Management, Architecture, SRE, Operations, and other engineering leaders.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead and develop the distributed Cloud Platform, Print Platform, and Content Delivery teams.
- Build a coherent platform-engineering organization with a shared mission, clear ownership, and strong execution.
- Accelerate the SaaS transformation by translating strategic direction into platform capabilities, adoption paths, and measurable outcomes.
- Provide standardized, reusable, and self-service capabilities that enable application teams to deploy and operate services independently.
- Treat the platform as a product, with clear internal users, priorities, adoption measures, and feedback loops.
- Establish clear boundaries between Platform Engineering, application teams, SRE, Operations, and Architecture.
- Drive platform adoption with the other Development leaders while keeping application migration and operational ownership within the application domains.
- Balance development of the target SaaS platform with pragmatic transition paths for self-hosted and hybrid customers.
- Build a culture of trust, accountability, constructive challenge, continuous improvement, and company-first leadership.
The ideal candidate
You are first and foremost an experienced engineering leader. You know how to create clarity, build effective teams, and translate strategic direction into coordinated execution across a complex engineering domain. You have successfully led distributed engineering teams in an international environment and bring experience from a customer-facing SaaS company or an organization transitioning toward SaaS delivery models.
You understand that developer enablement is how platform engineering scales. You know where a central platform team should build reusable capabilities, where it should provide standards and guardrails, and where application teams must retain ownership. You measure success through adoption and autonomy, not through the amount of work centralized in the platform organization.
You bring sufficient technical depth in platform engineering and SaaS to engage credibly with senior engineers and architects, understand trade-offs, ask incisive questions, guide the overall direction, and recognize whether teams are progressing toward a coherent and scalable platform. You are not expected to be hands-on or to act as the chief platform architect. Your role is to create the conditions for strong technical decisions and hold the organization accountable for sustained progress.
You are a strong people leader known for building trust, developing talent, and creating an environment where accountability, ownership, and continuous learning thrive. You communicate clearly, collaborate naturally across organizational boundaries, and contribute to the success of the wider company rather than focusing only on your own area.
Relevant experience
- Proven leadership experience from platform engineering, cloud-native engineering, developer platforms, or a closely related area.
- Experience leading multiple distributed engineering teams through organizational and technological change.
- Experience with customer-facing SaaS products and the organizational changes required to support SaaS-first delivery models.
- Broad understanding of platform engineering, internal developer platforms, self-service, AWS, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, CI/CD, APIs and gateways, observability, security, reliability, and cloud economics.
- Experience modernizing an established software platform while continuing to support legacy, self-hosted, or hybrid customer environments.
- A demonstrated ability to strengthen adoption of shared platforms and improve autonomy for application teams.
- Strong stakeholder-management and communication skills, with the ability to align across engineering, product, architecture, and operations.
- Fluency in English, spoken and written.
