Software Engineer - Infrastructure (Mid-Level / Senior) Location: Lisbon, Portugal Salary: €55,000-€100,000 depending on experience Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time About the Opportunity We're working with a well-funded international technology company expanding its infrastructure engineering team in Lisbon. The organisation develops cloud-native enterprise software and is building a team of engineers focused on designing, developing and improving the infrastructure systems that support its products. This is a software engineering role with a strong infrastructure focus, rather than a traditional DevOps or cloud administration position. You'll be developing production-grade software, infrastructure management tooling, automation and orchestration systems that improve the reliability, scalability and availability of complex applications. The business is hiring at both mid-level and senior levels and is particularly interested in engineers with strong programming fundamentals and a deep understanding of how infrastructure systems work. Key Responsibilities - Design, develop and maintain infrastructure management software and tooling. - Build automation to improve infrastructure provisioning, deployment and orchestration. - Develop systems that improve the scalability, reliability and availability of cloud-native applications. - Work with Kubernetes and containerised infrastructure environments. - Build and improve observability, monitoring and operational tooling. - Develop integrations with third-party infrastructure components. - Contribute to disaster recovery, backup and redundancy capabilities. - Support infrastructure changes across database and event-streaming platforms. - Improve internal engineering tools, testing processes and CI/CD workflows. - Collaborate with software engineering teams to solve complex infrastructure challenges. - Take ownership of technical solutions from design through to production. For senior engineers, responsibilities will also include leading infrastructure system design, solving complex architectural problems, providing technical direction and supporting other engineers. Essential Requirements - Strong hands-on software engineering experience, ideally with a background in infrastructure-focused development. - Proficiency in Python, Go or another modern programming language. - Experience developing production software, automation or infrastructure management tooling. - Understanding of containerisation, infrastructure orchestration or cloud-native systems. - Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP. - Experience with CI/CD systems such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins or CircleCI. - Knowledge of at least one of the following: - Kubernetes or Docker. - Observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana or OpenTelemetry. - Databases such as PostgreSQL or DuckDB. - Event-streaming platforms such as Kafka. - Strong software engineering fundamentals, including testing, debugging and code quality. - Ability to solve technical problems independently and collaborate effectively. - Relevant technical degree or equivalent demonstrated engineering capability. Additional Expectations for Senior Engineers - Strong practical knowledge of Kubernetes and container orchestration. - Experience designing and developing infrastructure systems rather than primarily configuring existing services. - Understanding of distributed systems, scalability and reliability. - Experience taking ownership of complex technical projects. - Ability to translate ambiguous problems into clear technical designs and implementation plans. - Experience providing technical guidance while remaining hands-on with development. Desirable Experience - Developing Kubernetes operators, controllers or custom orchestration systems. - Infrastructure provisioning and automation platforms. - Go or Python development in production environments. - Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Grafana or similar observability technologies. - Kafka, PostgreSQL or other data infrastructure platforms. - High-availability, backup and disaster recovery systems. - Experience building internal developer platforms. - Experience supporting high-consistency transactional systems. - Exposure to financial services or other regulated industries. For mid-level engineers, we're looking for strong coding fundamentals and the ability to independently deliver infrastructure-related development work. For senior engineers, we're looking for deeper systems expertise, strong Kubernetes knowledge and the ability to lead technical design and delivery.
