Senior Backend Engineer

Barden is delighted to partner with a fast-growing software company as they look to hire a Senior Software Engineer for their Data Platform team in Cork. This platform will hold all of the company's data. Existing products are moving onto it now, and new AI and reporting products will be built on it from the start. You will build the services and interfaces every product will run on, as volumes grow from a few million rows a month to more than 100 million rows a day. You do not need a data engineering background. You do need solid production backend experience and a real interest in getting the data right. We want an engineer who has run services in production, cares whether the numbers are right, and fixes problems at the source rather than working around them." – Director of Software Engineering ABOUT THE ROLE - Build event-driven ingestion services that load every record exactly once. - Design versioned APIs, SDKs, and data feeds that are safe to evolve. - Build point-in-time history and exact decimal precision into the platform. - Scale services by orders of magnitude while keeping costs under control. - Build self-service tooling to onboard new products and customers in days. - Own SLOs, alerting, and incident response for the services you ship. ABOUT THE PERSON - 5+ years building, deploying, and running backend services in production. - Strong Python, C#/.NET, Java, or a similar backend language. - Solid grasp of distributed systems, including idempotency, ordering, and retries. - Experience evolving APIs and schemas without breaking consumers. - Strong SQL and a working knowledge of cloud data warehouses. - Experience with payments, billing, or ledgers would be a plus. OTHER DETAILS - Hybrid working: 3 days per week in the Cork office. - A small, autonomous platform team of four to five engineers, working with a data architect. - An AI-first engineering culture, with Claude Code and Cursor part of the daily toolkit.
