Description

Company Description Grinds360 is an online learning platform for secondary school students in Ireland. Members gain unlimited access to live weekly grinds, on-demand lessons, full revision courses, and in-person workshops. The platform is designed to make high-quality education more accessible, engaging, and effective for secondary-level students. Grinds360 is widely used across Ireland, supporting over 18,000 students each year. About the role We are hiring a DevOps engineer to look after an established online learning platform. You will be responsible for the infrastructure, deployments and day-to-day reliability of a platform with real users, so the business can run with confidence and independence. You will work alongside our existing software supplier, who will continue to look after and manage software updates. Your job is to maintain platform stability, keep documents up to date, ensure the system remains self-sufficient, and to grow into the technical anchor of the business. The platform The platform is a learning product deployed across a number of services. Expect to learn and then own: ●      Cloud and data: AWS (compute, storage, networking, IAM) and MongoDB ●      Media and communications: Video streaming and email ●      Product tooling: Google Workspace and Jira ●      Payments through Stripe ●      Support on Zendesk Part of the role is building the full picture of how it all fits together: mapping the components, documenting them, and deciding what to simplify or consolidate as the business grows. Responsibilities You own the platform being up, secure and recoverable. Feature development and larger software changes are handled by our existing software supplier, working with you. ●      Reliability: keep production healthy, set up monitoring and alerting, and be the first responder when something breaks ●      Infrastructure: manage AWS and MongoDB, and move manual setup into infrastructure as code (Terraform or similar) ●      Delivery pipelines: build and maintain CI/CD across the repositories, with repeatable and safe deployments ●      Security and access: manage IAM, secrets and access to every connected service, and run joiner and leaver checks ●      Backups and recovery: put in place tested backups, a documented restore process, and a basic disaster recovery plan ●      Cost and hygiene: review cloud spend, remove unused resources, and keep dependencies and runtimes current ●      Documentation: Maintain existing documentation and document changes as they occur ●      Working with our software supplier: triage incoming issues, decide what needs a code change, and hand those over with clear context Requirements We care more about judgement and ownership than a specific tool list. This is a role with real ownership, so we are looking for someone who enjoys building things properly and seeing the results. Must have ●      Hands-on DevOps, SRE or platform engineering experience, including looking after systems in production ●      Strong AWS experience, including IAM, networking, compute and managed services ●      Experience running MongoDB (Atlas or self-managed), including backups, performance and access control ●      CI/CD experience and infrastructure as code ●      Monitoring, logging and incident response experience ●      Good security habits around secrets, least-privilege access and offboarding ●      Clear written communication, since you will document everything and explain it to non-technical colleagues Nice to have ●      Experience getting to grips with an existing system, including audits and documentation ●      Comfort reading code across several languages, so you can work well with developers ●      Experience in a small business or startup environment, where you shape how things are done ●      Familiarity with learning platforms, video delivery or email marketing integrations ●      Experience with cost optimisation on AWS First 90 days 1.     Days 1 to 30, learn and inventory: work through the onboarding with our software supplier, get access to every system, and produce a complete inventory of services, repositories, owners, credentials and costs. Fix any urgent security gaps you find. 2.     Days 31 to 60, stabilise: set up monitoring and alerting, confirm backups restore correctly, and document how deployments work today. Agree a priority list of risks and improvements with the client. 3.     Days 61 to 90, improve: begin moving infrastructure to code, tidy up pipelines and access, and cut obvious waste. Have a runbook for the top incidents and a clear on-call arrangement. Support from our software supplier You will not be on your own. Our existing software supplier acts as second-line support, handles minor changes and bug fixes.  Over time the aim is for our software supplier to manage software changes while you keep the platform running, so you spend your time on operations rather than feature work. What we offer and how to apply ●      Full ownership of a real platform, with the chance to shape how it runs ●      Direct access to the founders and a second-line support partner ●      Salary: €75,000 - €90,000 ●      Working arrangement: On-site with flexible hours ●      Employment type and start date: Immediate To apply, send a short note about a platform you have looked after and what you did in your first month, along with your CV.
