Description

TYTAN Technologies At TYTAN, we aim to set a global standard in autonomous air defense with AI-driven, cost-efficient systems that counter unmanned aerial threats at scale. We protect people. We protect critical infrastructure. We protect European sovereignty. We are looking for a Senior Avionics Engineer to define, implement, and validate the avionics architecture of advanced UAV platforms. You will be responsible for integrating autonomy, GNC, and command & control (C2) into a coherent, reliable onboard system across fixed-wing, VTOL and transitioning aircrafts. This role is hands-on, system-level, and deployment-focused. You will work at the intersection of hardware and software, ensuring that all onboard systems communicate reliably and perform in real operational environments. You will act as a technical sparring partner across avionics and system integration, contributing experience, pragmatism, and strong engineering judgment. Your roadmap to make an impact - Define and own the end-to-end avionics architecture for UAV platforms, from concept to operational deployment - Define and implement system-level integration of flight control (GNC), autonomy stacks, and C2 links - Design and manage onboard communication architectures (e.g., MAVLink, DDS, Ethernet, CAN, serial protocols) - Integrate and validate flight controllers, companion computers, sensors, radios, and payload systems - Ensure robust data flow, synchronization, and fault-tolerant behavior across all subsystems - Take avionics systems from lab setup to real aircraft, ensuring reliable sim-to-real and bench-to-flight transition - Lead and support hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and system-level testing, including debugging complex integration issues - Work closely with GNC, autonomy, C2, and EWIS/electrical teams to ensure tight system coupling and clean interfaces - Support flight testing, including system bring-up, monitoring, logging, and post-flight analysis - Define and implement system monitoring, health checks, and fail-safe strategies - Document system architectures, interfaces, and integration workflows in a clear and maintainable way - Support integration into customer and operational environments, including Bundeswehr (Bw) requirements - 5+ of hands-on experience in avionics, robotics, or UAV system integration - Strong experience working with real UAV systems, ideally across fixed-wing and/or VTOL platforms - Proven track record of integrating complex systems (flight controllers, companion computers, sensors, radios) into a working aircraft - Strong understanding of system architecture, interfaces, and real-time data flow - Experience with autopilot systems (e.g., PX4) and UAV software stacks - Proficiency in C++ and Python, with practical experience in ROS2 or similar middleware - Hands-on experience with communication protocols (e.g., MAVLink, CAN, UART, Ethernet, DDS) - Comfortable debugging hardware-software integration issues in real systems - Experience with Linux-based systems, embedded computing, and system bring-up - Strong systems-thinking mindset: understanding of how everything connects and fails together Nice to have - Experience with C2 systems and radio link integration, including bandwidth and latency considerations - Experience with HIL/SIL testing setups and simulation integration - Experience supporting flight testing and field deployments - Background in defense or safety-critical systems Why TYTAN? - Build technology with real operational impact: Develop autonomous defence systems designed to protect lives and strengthen Europe’s security - Shape scalable defence capabilities: Work on solutions built for mass deployment, cost efficiency, resilience, and reliable production at scale - Contribute to networked air defence: Help integrate our systems into multi-layered defence architectures alongside sensors, command systems, and effectors - Develop for real-world operations: Build capabilities together with end users and improve them continuously based on direct operational feedback - Move fast and take ownership: Work in a focused, high-performance team where decisions are made quickly and individual contributions have immediate impact - Define a new generation of defence technology: Join early and help shape the products, engineering standards, culture, and direction of a fast-growing deep-tech company - Work with an international mission-driven team: Collaborate with experienced specialists united by the goal of creating sovereign and effective security capabilities for Europe Our Benefits - Virtual stock options: Participate in our success through Virtual stock options (VSOPs) at the company's current valuation - Monthly allowances: €106/month in flexible benefits including lunch discounts and EGYM Wellpass or shopping credit - Regular health care events: Health check-ups, skin screenings, mental health workshops, and an annual vitamin infusion on us - Referral bonus: Earn a reward when someone you refer joins the team - Regular team events: On- and off-site activities to connect and celebrate together - Corporate discounts: Exclusive employee discounts across a wide range of partner brands - Flexibility: Flexible working hours and hybrid work model, plus a modern Munich office built for focus and collaboration - Dynamic and fast-paced team: Be among the first to shape a deep-tech defence company redefining the future of security with an international team where your impact is immediate About us At TYTAN, it is more than just a job; it is about embracing autonomy, personal growth, and purpose. Make a lasting impact in the new era of defense! Join us to create a safer world for all. WE are an equal-opportunity employer committed to fairness and inclusivity.
