Description

Principal Site Reliability Engineer | Global Fintech Company | Fully Remote (UK & Ireland) | £80k - £90k + bonus UK/ROI Citizenship, EU Settled Status, or UK ILR required My client is a well-established global fintech company. With full backing from their EVP of Technology, they’re now building a new internal platform: the foundation that every engineer, and a growing number of AI agents, will build and run on. They’re hiring a Principal SRE to own reliability as an engineering discipline across that platform. You’ll work across their data centres and public cloud, and you’ll write code every week. What you’ll be doing: - Defining SLOs and error budgets with service owners, and using them to decide between shipping new features and doing reliability work - Setting the observability standard on OpenTelemetry and Splunk, so every alert maps to a user-facing symptom and every page comes with a runbook - Diagnosing issues across the whole stack (application code, databases, Linux, networks, DNS, load balancers, cloud) and fixing root causes in code - Designing chaos, fault injection, load and DR tests for critical payment services - Leading major incidents and blameless post-incident reviews - Building tooling and MCP integrations so engineers and agents can investigate incidents and run approved fixes safely - Setting reliability standards and mentoring senior engineers across platform and product teams What they’re looking for: - Senior or lead SRE, production or software engineering experience running large-scale production services - Writes production-quality code in Go, Rust, C#, Java or Python - Deep experience with SLIs, SLOs, error budgets and burn-rate alerting - Strong understanding of how distributed systems fail: timeouts, retries, circuit breakers, load shedding - Solid Linux, networking (TCP/IP, DNS, TLS) and public cloud skills, plus Terraform/Ansible and CI/CD - On-prem or hybrid experience is a big plus - Uses AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex) every day and understands MCP, agent safety and least-privilege access - Bonus points for: Splunk, OpenTelemetry, HAProxy, Consul, VMware, Palo Alto, Cloudflare Why it’s worth a look: - Fully remote, with no expectation to go into an office - Uncapped paid holiday (people really use it) - Annual bonus, private healthcare, home working allowance and tech setup budget - Company hackathons, summer and Christmas meetups, and a paid volunteering day - A stable, profitable industry with far less red tape than big tech, so decisions get made and shipped quickly - Clear progression into either an architecture or a management track
