Description

AWS Cloud / Platform Engineer - Galway Hybrid - 2 days per week onsite My client are seeking a hands-on AWS Cloud / Platform Engineer to design, build and improve AWS platforms, including Kubernetes environments running on EKS. You will work closely with development teams, take requirements through to implementation and support the platforms you build in production. Using a Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) approach, you will improve reliability, automate recurring tasks and resolve production problems at their source. Key Responsibilities - Design, build, configure and maintain AWS infrastructure across compute, networking, storage and IAM. - Work directly with developers to understand application requirements and deliver suitable infrastructure and platform solutions. - Build, operate and troubleshoot Kubernetes environments on AWS, particularly EKS. - Investigate production incidents involving AWS services, Kubernetes workloads, operating systems and application dependencies. - Resolve connectivity issues, application failures, performance bottlenecks and infrastructure configuration problems. - Identify root causes and implement changes that reduce recurring incidents. - Develop monitoring and observability through logs, metrics, dashboards and actionable alerts. - Automate infrastructure and operational tasks using scripting, with Python experience beneficial. - Improve platform resilience, performance, security and maintainability. - Manage permissions and address patching requirements, configuration weaknesses and operational risks. - Reduce technical debt and manual processes. - Document platform designs, configurations and operational procedures. Skills and Experience - Strong practical experience designing, building and supporting AWS platforms. - In-depth understanding of AWS compute, networking, storage and IAM, including how services work together. - Hands-on experience deploying and operating Kubernetes workloads on EKS. - Proven ability to investigate live production issues and implement lasting improvements. - Experience using monitoring and observability tools to diagnose problems and assess platform health. - Practical experience supporting Windows and Linux environments. - Experience with scripting and automation. - Strong understanding of cloud security, permissions and the production impact of infrastructure changes. - Clear communication skills and experience collaborating with development teams. - Ability to explain what you personally built, why you designed it that way and how you supported it in production. Additional Experience - Python scripting. - Implementing or configuring Backstage or other developer portals. - Using AI tools such as Claude to support scripting and troubleshooting, with the technical judgement to validate outputs before use.
