You'll be the person who makes it run: every employee, every state, every country, every filing. Most senior payroll roles hand you a well-oiled machine and ask you not to break it. This one asks you to build it. You'll own US and international payroll, set up the calendar and controls, assist with month end close, and be the internal expert on anything that touches a paycheck. You'll thrive as the Senior Payroll Specialist if you: - are obsessive about tying out numbers to the penny - are known as the go-to person for tackling tough problems - work hard and can build and ship fast - are focused on polish, detail and quality - are a fast learner, frequently picking up new tips, tricks, and skills The best way to impress us is with thoughtful ways you'd implement LiveKit, and potentially tinkering with it 😊 WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Senior Payroll Specialist at LiveKit, you will: - Run US and international payroll end to end, from collecting inputs to final reconciliation - Own all associated payroll tax filings, domestic and international, and keep us compliant and on time - Manage our PEO and EOR relationships, and know where their responsibility ends and yours begins - Reconcile payroll to the general ledger each cycle and support month-end close - Build and maintain our payroll calendar, processes, and documentation as payroll moves into Finance - Partner with People/Talent and accounting on new hires, changes, terminations, and month-end reconciliation - Support equity administration in Carta and equity reporting for the board - Be the go-to contact for payroll questions internally and for auditor requests externally WHO YOU ARE - Hands-on experience running both US and international payroll, including Canada and/or the EU - Experience managing payroll tax filings directly, not just handing them off to a provider - Experience with multi-state US payroll for a remote, distributed team - Strong experience working within PEO and/or EOR structures - Familiarity with startup-focused platforms such as Rippling, Deel, Remote, or similar - Comfort working independently as the subject-matter expert, juggling many moving pieces and flagging tax, legal, and compliance risk before it becomes a problem NICE TO HAVE - CPP, FPC, or a similar payroll certification - Experience moving payroll in-house, switching providers, or migrating an HRIS - Experience with equity administration in Carta - Experience at a fast-growing company with a distributed, international team - You've personally caught a payroll error before anyone else did, and you still think about it fondly OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU - An opportunity to build something truly impactful to the world - Contribute to open source alongside world-class engineers - Competitive salary and equity package - Health, dental, and vision benefits - Flexible vacation policy LiveKit is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of any characteristic protected by applicable law.
