Description

About LessonUp LessonUp is an educational software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform that provides teachers with tools and resources to create engaging and effective learning experiences. Its mission is to help teachers deliver joyful, effective learning moments and support one million teachers worldwide, making a positive impact on the next generation of learners. About the Role LessonUp is looking for a Senior Platform Automation Engineer to take ownership of its cloud platform, strengthen production infrastructure, and improve developer productivity. This role focuses on platform engineering, DevOps, and infrastructure rather than writing day-to-day QA tests. You will manage and improve the company's Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environment, address technical debt, maintain reliable production systems, and build the infrastructure and CI/CD workflows that help developers deliver and validate code more quickly. A key part of the role is enabling isolated, temporary environments for every pull request and ensuring automated end-to-end tests run reliably within CI pipelines. You will work closely with developers and QA engineers to improve testing workflows, reduce flaky test results, and support faster, more dependable releases. Key Responsibilities •Take ownership of the production GCP environment, addressing technical debt and managing cloud resources. •Improve infrastructure security, performance, scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency. •Design, implement, and maintain ephemeral environments for individual pull requests so teams can test and review changes in isolation. •Operate end-to-end testing frameworks, including Playwright, Jest, and Cucumber, within CI pipelines. •Improve test execution by integrating testing into ephemeral environments, optimising parallelisation, and reducing flaky results. •Streamline CI/CD pipelines, build processes, and deployment workflows to reduce developer waiting time. •Establish reliable release processes that support consistent and dependable production deployments. •Provide APIs, data-preparation tools, and CI/CD integrations that help developers and QA engineers build, maintain, and run their own test suites. •Balance production infrastructure needs with internal tooling and the wider engineering team's requirements. Required Qualifications •At least 8 years of experience primarily in Platform Engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE). •At least 2 years of experience in a senior role. •Strong experience managing production cloud infrastructure, developer tooling, and CI/CD pipelines. •Strong proficiency with Google Cloud Platform (GCP). •Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) and scalable production environments. •Practical experience operating end-to-end testing frameworks within CI pipelines, including test integration, parallelisation, and flakiness reduction. •Comfort working with GraphQL APIs and MongoDB databases. •Ability to work independently, make pragmatic and data-driven decisions, and take ownership of platform initiatives. •A proactive, curious, open-minded, and collaborative approach to working with engineering teams. •Must currently reside in the Netherlands. Fully remote work from outside the Netherlands and relocation are not available for this position. Preferred Qualifications •Experience with Terraform for infrastructure as code. •Familiarity with Cucumber for behaviour-driven development (BDD). •Experience with Storybook. Salary and Benefits •Monthly salary of €5,000–€6,000, based on a 40-hour working week. •Choice of a 32-, 36-, or 40-hour working week. •Laptop provided. •NS business travel card or mileage reimbursement of €0.25 per kilometre. •Personal learning and development budget. •Unlimited access to OpenUp for mental health and wellbeing support. •Retirement savings plan through ASR. •Free lunch, drinks, and snacks at the office. •Company social events throughout the year, including rooftop terrace parties, beach barbecues, game nights, and monthly drinks. Work Arrangement The position is based at LessonUp's office in The Hague, Netherlands, with the flexibility to work from home occasionally. This is not a fully remote role, and applicants must already reside in the Netherlands. Equal Opportunity Statement LessonUp is an equal opportunity employer committed to building an inclusive workplace. The company does not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, religion, marital status, age, national origin, ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical condition, pregnancy, genetic information, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
