Description
Overview
Based in Dublin, you will join a highly technical production engineering team responsible for business-critical trading systems during EMEA hours. The team’s initial focus is supporting US overnight and pre-market operations and preparing platforms for the US trading day. Over time, its remit will expand across additional markets, systems and asset classes as part of our global follow-the-sun support model.
This is a hands-on engineering role, not just a script-following ticket-driven function. You will learn how our trading systems work end to end, use code, logs, metrics and system behaviour to investigate problems, and make risk-aware decisions in time-sensitive situations. During an incident, your priorities will be to understand the trading impact, mitigate the problem safely, restore service and communicate clearly. You will then help establish root cause and prevent recurrence.
Alongside live production support, you will work on engineering improvements that make the environment safer and easier to operate, e.g. automating repetitive work, improving observability, strengthening deployment and rollback processes, and removing recurring failure modes.
The team works closely with traders, software engineers and infrastructure specialists across the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific and act as a key point of contact between production engineering and software engineering teams based in different geographies.
As an early member of the team, you will have meaningful influence over its engineering practices, regional handoffs, tooling and operating model. You will spend an extended onboarding period working alongside our support team in the United States, with ongoing travel to the US (typically two or more weeks per year) to maintain strong ties across regions.
In This Role You Will
- SUPPORT: Provide first-line engineering support for live trading environments, initially focusing on US overnight and pre-market operations. Prepare platforms for the trading day through readiness checks covering application health, critical data, scheduled workflows, configuration and external connectivity.
- INVESTIGATE: Diagnose incidents across application, operating-system, network and database layers using logs, metrics, traces and code. Assess trading impact, resolve or safely mitigate issues within agreed permissions, and work with developers and infrastructure specialists on underlying problems.
- ENGINEER: Build and maintain automation, monitoring and operational tools that improve reliability and reduce manual work. Deliver planned improvement projects, with time allocated to complete them, and contribute to configuration, capacity and resilience improvements alongside infrastructure teams.
- RELEASE: Configure, deploy and operate proprietary trading applications using controlled release, verification and rollback procedures. Strengthen deployment and recovery practices as the environment evolves.
- COORDINATE: Help shape the global follow-the-sun operating model and standardise practices across regions. Manage escalations and regional handoffs, keeping trading and technical teams informed of business impact, current status and next steps.
- REVIEW: Analyse incidents and recurring issues, identify underlying causes and trends, and drive corrective actions through to completion with the relevant teams.
- ENABLE: Equip teams with clear operational guidance, runbooks and recovery procedures. Capture lessons from incidents and share knowledge across the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific so colleagues can support systems confidently and consistently.
What We're Looking For
- At least two years’ experience in production engineering, site reliability engineering, application support, software development or another role supporting business-critical systems.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to investigate issues through logs and system behaviour.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to read Python code and write maintainable automation in Python, PowerShell, Bash or a comparable language.
- Experience using source control and standard software-engineering practices such as testing, peer review and controlled releases.
- Hands-on experience with Linux or Windows. The role involves supporting trading applications across both environments.
- Understanding of distributed systems and networking fundamentals, TCP/IP, DNS, service dependencies, messaging patterns and common failure modes.
- Working knowledge of SQL and database concepts and fundamentals.
- Exposure to logging, metrics, monitoring and alerting platforms (e.g. ELK stack, Checkmk, Nagios, Splunk).
- Willingness to work in shifts and have on-call responsibilities and travel to the US, including an extended period during initial onboarding.
