We are seeking a Principal Solution Architect to serve as the architectural leader for the PMI US Direct landscape, owning the technology direction and architectural coherence across consumer-facing experiences and supporting capabilities. With a primary focus on Front-End, Digital Experience, and Commerce, this role will also provide strategic oversight across Identity, Loyalty, and other cross-domain Direct platforms, ensuring the delivery of cohesive, scalable, and future-ready solutions. The role will act as the architectural voice of the US business within the broader Direct to Consumer Architecture community, representing US needs, shaping shared platform roadmaps, and ensuring that local market priorities are aligned with global Direct standards, reusable capabilities, and enterprise architecture direction.
The role requires a strong systems-thinking mindset, the ability to navigate complex business and technology ecosystems, and the capability to influence senior stakeholders while driving innovation in composable, cloud-native, and AI-enabled architectures.
Your day-to-day
- Partner with Product Owners and Delivery Managers to define product vision and guide teams toward delivering measurable customer value.
- Translate complex and evolving business requirements into robust, scalable, and high-performance e-commerce architectures, backed by modern frontend frameworks and CMS, with fast time to market.
- Own and evolve the application architecture to ensure reusability, scalability, maintainability, extensibility, and operational excellence.
- Identify and influence adjacent product roadmaps that either benefit your vertical directly or enable it to achieve added value.
- Assess the current system landscape, identify gaps, and propose forward-thinking architectural strategies.
- Drive PoC(s) by collaborating with Software Engineering team to achieve consistent and backed target Architecture.
- Drive identification of Non-Functional and technical requirements.
- Partner with business, product, engineering, and architecture stakeholders to shape initiatives, govern solution decisions, and ensure alignment with business objectives and target architecture.
- Define and maintain architecture roadmaps, decision records, standards, solution designs, and other artefacts required to guide delivery teams and ensure alignment across the US Direct Landscape.
- Identify improvement opportunities and advise Product Owners on roadmap evolution.
- Represent US Direct architectural interests across the broader Direct ecosystem, influencing shared platform roadmaps and collaborating with US Indirect, Domain, Product Group, and Solution Architects to ensure US requirements are aligned with reusable capabilities, enterprise standards, and long-term strategic direction.
Who are we looking for?
- Extensive experience in Solution Architecture, Enterprise Architecture, or Technical Leadership roles within large-scale digital consumer ecosystems.
- Strong expertise in digital commerce architectures, including customer journeys, product catalogue management, promotions, pricing, cart, checkout, order orchestration, and integration with downstream fulfilment and customer systems.
- Deep understanding of modern frontend and digital experience architectures, including headless, composable, API-first, and cloud-native design patterns.
- Proven ability to lead architecture across a complex, multi-domain ecosystem, balancing local market needs with global platform strategy, reusable capabilities, and enterprise standards.
- Proven experience leading architecture for large-scale consumer-facing web and mobile platforms serving high-volume, business-critical digital channels.
- Experience designing and governing solutions across multiple products, teams, and domains while maintaining a coherent end-to-end architecture vision.
- Strong knowledge of system integration patterns, including event-driven architectures, APIs, microservices, and asynchronous communication models.
- Experience defining solution architectures that balance business objectives, technical constraints, operational excellence, security, scalability, resilience, and cost efficiency.
- Demonstrated ability to influence technical and business stakeholders across multiple organisational levels and drive alignment on architectural decisions.
- Experience establishing and governing Non-Functional Requirements (NFRs) including performance, scalability, reliability, observability, security, and maintainability.
- Ability to navigate from strategic architecture conversations to detailed technical reviews and implementation guidance with engineering teams.
- Experience working in Agile, Product-Centric, and DevOps delivery models.
Preferred
- Strong experience with SAP Commerce (Hybris), including headless and composable commerce implementations.
- Experience with modern CMS and Digital Experience Platforms, preferably Adobe Experience Manager (AEM).
- Deep understanding of frontend technologies and frameworks such as React, Next.js, Node.js, and modern web architecture patterns.
- Experience architecting or governing solutions involving Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) platforms and customer authentication journeys.
- Experience with Loyalty, Personalisation, Engagement, or Customer Data platforms.
- Experience with public cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and cloud-native architecture patterns.
- Experience supporting multi-market or multi-country commerce implementations and platform expansion programmes.
- Familiarity with marketing technology ecosystems, customer engagement platforms, and digital analytics capabilities.
- Experience creating architectural roadmaps, investment cases, technology strategies, and technical modernisation plans.
