Are you passionate about building world-class platforms that enable engineering teams to move faster, innovate confidently, and deliver at scale?
We are looking for a Director of Platform Engineering to lead the evolution of a modern platform engineering function. This is a strategic leadership role where you will shape the vision, roadmap, and operating model for a platform organisation responsible for cloud infrastructure, automation, reliability, identity, networking, and developer enablement.
This is an opportunity to influence how engineering is delivered across a growing technology business, driving platform adoption, operational excellence, and the use of emerging technologies including AI-assisted engineering.
The role
- Define and execute the platform engineering strategy and long-term roadmap.
- Lead and develop high-performing engineering teams across infrastructure, network, reliability, identity, and platform services.
- Drive automation-first principles through Infrastructure as Code, self-service platforms, and engineering enablement.
- Champion reliability, scalability, security, and operational excellence across critical platforms.
- Partner with technology and business leadership to align platform investment with organisational objectives.
- Enhance developer productivity through modern platform tooling and engineering practices.
- Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies, including AI-driven engineering capabilities and automation.
- Build a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability.
Your profile
We are interested in technology leaders who combine strategic vision with strong technical credibility.
- Proven experience leading and developing production engineering teams, including hiring, performance management, and technical leadership.
- Deep expertise in at least one Platform Engineering domain (Infrastructure, Network, Reliability/SRE, or Identity), with hands-on experience writing and reviewing code and Infrastructure as Code.
- Strong knowledge of modern platform technologies including Terraform, Ansible, secrets management, service discovery, OIDC, observability, and public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP or OCI).
- Demonstrated success delivering platform and infrastructure initiatives, managing budgets, vendors, and measurable improvements in service reliability, automation, and developer enablement.
- Experience operating production services within regulated environments such as PCI DSS and SOX, including incident management, on-call ownership, and audit-ready controls.
- Practical experience using AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor to accelerate software development, automation, infrastructure management, and operational investigations.
- Understanding of MCP, agent-based tooling, AI governance, model selection, context management, verification, and secure AI adoption in engineering environments.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders through documentation, architecture reviews, incident reports, and strategic updates.
Desirable Experience
- Experience with HashiCorp Vault, including dynamic secrets for databases, PKI and cloud.
- Experience with HashiCorp Consul for service discovery.
- Experience with Active Directory and Entra ID.
- Experience with OpenTelemetry.
- Experience with VMware vSphere, Palo Alto or HAProxy Enterprise at scale
Additional information
- On the escalation rota for incidents in your platforms, with occasional out-of-hours work for planned changes and major incidents.
- Fully remote, working with teams and stakeholders across locations and time zones.
What is on Offer
- Fully remote working within the UK.
- Opportunity to shape the future direction of a growing technology organisation.
- High-impact leadership role with significant influence across technology strategy.
- Collaborative and forward-thinking engineering culture.
- Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
