Azure Cloud / Platform Engineer - Galway
Hybrid: 2 days per week in office
My client are seeking a hands-on Azure Cloud / Platform Engineer to design, build and improve cloud platforms that support development teams and production applications.
You will take requirements through to implementation and own the infrastructure you deliver in production. Using a Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) approach, you will focus on reliability, automation, proactive improvements and resolving the underlying causes of production issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, configure and maintain Azure infrastructure across compute, networking, storage and identity.
- Work directly with developers to understand application requirements and translate them into practical platform solutions.
- Deploy, operate and troubleshoot Kubernetes workloads, including AKS where relevant.
- Investigate production incidents across infrastructure, operating systems and application dependencies.
- Identify root causes and implement improvements to prevent recurring issues.
- Develop monitoring and observability through logs, metrics, dashboards and actionable alerts.
- Automate infrastructure and operational tasks using scripting, with Python experience beneficial.
- Improve platform resilience, performance, security and maintainability.
- Manage access controls and address patching requirements, configuration weaknesses and operational risks.
- Identify and reduce technical debt, fragile configurations and unnecessary manual processes.
- Document platform designs, configurations and operational procedures.
Skills and Experience
- Strong practical experience designing, building and supporting Azure platforms.
- In-depth understanding of Azure compute, networking, storage and identity services, including how they connect.
- Hands-on Kubernetes experience, with AKS experience relevant to the role.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot live production issues and deliver lasting fixes.
- Experience using monitoring and observability tools to assess platform health and diagnose failures.
- Practical experience supporting Windows and Linux environments.
- Experience with scripting and automation.
- Strong understanding of cloud security, permissions and the production impact of infrastructure changes.
- Clear communication skills and experience collaborating with development teams.
- Ability to explain what you personally built, the decisions you made and the problems you resolved.
Additional Experience
- Python scripting.
- Implementing or configuring Backstage or other developer portals.
- Using AI tools such as Claude to support scripting and troubleshooting, with the technical judgement to validate outputs before use.
