Description
Technical Project Management / MRO & Technical Support Team Lead
BASEYARD is building a next-generation industrial ecosystem for defence and dual-use technologies in Portugal. Our mission is to help advanced technology companies industrialise, manufacture, and scale unmanned systems, mission-critical platforms, electronics, and integrated defence technologies.
As an advanced manufacturing and industrialisation hub, BASEYARD supports customers throughout the product lifecycle, from engineering and prototyping to industrialisation, serial production, testing, maintenance, and global delivery.
We are looking for a practical and hands-on Technical Project Management / MRO & Technical Support Team Lead to coordinate technical projects, maintenance, repair and overhaul activities, and customer technical support for complex unmanned and electromechanical systems.
The role combines technical project management, hands-on troubleshooting, MRO coordination and team leadership, working closely with customers, engineering, production, quality and supply chain.
What you will do
- Lead technical projects from initial requirements through delivery, commissioning, support and close-out.
- Coordinate MRO, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting and technical support activities for customer systems.
- Act as the technical point of contact for customers during integration, testing, deployment and after-sales support.
- Plan and coordinate technical work, resources, schedules, priorities and deliverables.
- Lead technical investigations and root-cause analysis of mechanical, electrical, electronic and system-level issues.
- Coordinate repairs, modifications, upgrades and engineering changes.
- Support field deployment, commissioning, acceptance testing and technical interventions when required.
- Develop and maintain service procedures, maintenance plans, troubleshooting guides and technical documentation.
- Define spare parts, tools, equipment and technical resources required for MRO and field support.
- Coordinate technical activities between Engineering, Production, Quality, Supply Chain and external suppliers.
- Support the development of serviceability, maintainability and reliability requirements for products entering production.
- Establish and improve processes for technical support, maintenance, repair and customer service.
- Lead and develop the technical support/MRO team as the organisation grows.
- Support production ramp-up and transfer of technical knowledge from Engineering into Production and Service.
- Ensure technical activities are properly documented, tracked and delivered according to customer and quality requirements.
Who you will work with
Engineering:
Resolve technical issues, implement engineering changes and feed field and service experience back into product development.
Production:
Coordinate repairs, modifications, rework and technical interventions, and support production during ramp-up.
Quality:
Define inspection, acceptance, failure analysis and traceability requirements.
Supply Chain:
Coordinate spare parts, components, suppliers, repair services and technical procurement.
Customers:
Manage technical communication, requirements, issues, project status, acceptance and ongoing support.
What you bring
- Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics, Aerospace Engineering or a related technical field.
- Several years of experience in technical project management, field engineering, MRO, technical support or production engineering.
- Hands-on experience with complex electromechanical, robotic, automotive, aerospace or industrial systems.
- Strong ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, electronic and system-level problems.
- Experience coordinating technical projects, resources, schedules and multiple stakeholders.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, BOMs and technical documentation.
- Experience working directly with customers, suppliers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work hands-on when required rather than managing exclusively from an office.
- Good English communication skills; Portuguese is strongly preferred.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for customer support, commissioning, field work or supplier activities.
Nice to have
- Experience in defence, aerospace, robotics or unmanned systems, including UAV, UGV, USV or UUV platforms.
- Experience with MRO, field service, commissioning or after-sales technical support.
- Experience with electronics, PCB assemblies, sensors, actuators, power systems and wiring harnesses.
- Experience with test equipment, diagnostic tools and technical test procedures.
- Knowledge of reliability, maintainability, FMEA, root-cause analysis and continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100 or AQAP.
- Experience leading a small technical or field service team.
- Experience working with ERP, PLM, CMMS or other technical/service management systems.
What we offer
- A key technical leadership role supporting the industrialisation and lifecycle of unmanned systems, robotics and advanced electronics.
- The opportunity to build and lead the technical support and MRO function within a growing industrial organisation.
- Hands-on involvement across engineering, production, testing, deployment and customer support.
- High ownership and autonomy in an international environment with ambitious growth plans.
- The opportunity to work directly with innovative European defence and dual-use technology companies.
- Competitive salary.
- Health insurance after the probation period.
- Accident insurance from day one.
- A role based at BASEYARD’s industrial facility in Braga, Portugal.
