About The Role The Principal Product Software Engineer role at Wolters Kluwer is a senior leadership position designed for an experienced engineer who excels at elevating engineering teams through strategic technical guidance and architectural excellence. This role focuses on transforming loosely defined product or platform challenges into clear, actionable solutions, emphasizing system design, technical trade-offs, and measurable outcomes. The successful candidate will operate at the intersection of architecture, engineering effectiveness, and modern AI-enabled development, advocating for best practices in design, testing, and deployment. You will lead efforts to improve engineering workflows, accelerate delivery, and foster agentic development techniques that responsibly incorporate AI and automation into the SDLC. Additionally, you will guide modernization initiatives to build resilient, secure, and cloud-native systems and design robust APIs across multiple protocols. Your influence will extend across teams, mentoring senior engineers, and ensuring that engineering practices align with business goals and technical excellence. Qualifications - Extensive experience in software architecture and engineering leadership - Proven track record of leading complex system design and modernization efforts - Strong understanding of cloud-native development, including Azure, Kubernetes, and containerization - Experience designing and evolving APIs using REST, gRPC, SOAP, or other protocols - Knowledge of AI/ML integration within customer-facing products - Expertise in modern development practices such as specification-driven development, testing strategies, and observability - Ability to rationalize complex technical architectures into clear, reviewable designs - Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and mentor across teams - Familiarity with Microsoft .NET, JavaScript/TypeScript, Angular, React, and related ecosystems is advantageous - Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field; advanced certifications are a plus Responsibilities - Transform loosely defined product or platform problems into clear, actionable specifications and success criteria - Design and rationalize complex technical architectures into coherent, reviewable solutions - Make principled trade-offs between development speed, quality, and maintainability, and communicate these decisions effectively - Identify and eliminate friction points in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) through improved design, testing, and deployment practices - Lead the adoption of specification-driven development, ensuring explicit contracts, interfaces, and testability - Accelerate delivery by enhancing work shaping, reducing lead and cycle times, and improving release confidence - Enable responsible agentic development by experimenting with AI-assisted workflows grounded in explicit specifications and guardrails - Guide teams in building and evolving cloud-native applications with resilience, security, and independent deployability - Support legacy modernization efforts to achieve true cloud-native characteristics - Design, build, and evolve APIs with strong contract discipline, backward compatibility, and optimal consumer experience - Contribute to AI-powered product development, ensuring security, observability, and operational robustness - Mentor senior and staff engineers through architectural reviews, design discussions, and hands-on collaboration - Act as a technical multiplier, influencing engineering practices across teams without direct authority Benefits - Flexible 36- to 40-hour workweek with options for remote work - Competitive salary aligned with experience and skills - 25 vacation days annually (based on 40-hour workweek) - Hybrid working model with a maximum of two days per week in the office - Wolters Kluwer refunds 50% of pension contributions - Informal and inclusive work environment with multiple social and professional events each year - Complimentary coffee from freshly toasted fair-trade beans and daily fresh fruit - Free daily lunch buffet to enjoy with colleagues Equal Opportunity Wolters Kluwer is committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace.
