Description

Description We are looking for a Head of Engineering to lead and scale Datamentors’ engineering organisation, ensuring we have the teams, technical foundations, and ways of working required to deliver our ambitions in autonomous robotics. As our Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for the performance and effectiveness of the engineering organisation, working closely with engineering leaders and senior technical contributors to maintain a high technical bar and ensure strong execution across teams. You will own engineering delivery across our teams, translating product and company priorities into clear and executable plans while maintaining high standards of quality, reliability, and performance. You will remain close to the technology, helping teams navigate complex technical decisions, remove blockers, manage technical debt, and continuously improve how we build, test, deploy, and operate our systems. You will also play a key role in scaling the organisation: developing engineering leaders, establishing clear ownership and accountability, attracting and retaining exceptional talent, and building an engineering culture based on technical excellence, pragmatism, collaboration, and ownership. Working closely with the CEO and wider leadership team, you will align engineering priorities with company and product goals and represent Engineering in key strategic, product, and organisational decisions. Requirements - Significant experience leading engineering teams building complex, technically demanding products. - Proven experience building and scaling high-performing engineering organisations. - Experience managing and developing engineering managers, technical leads, and senior engineers. - Strong technical background and the ability to engage credibly in architecture and complex technical decisions. - Track record of improving engineering execution, quality, and delivery as organisations scale. - Strong understanding of modern software architecture, infrastructure, engineering practices, and production systems. - Experience taking complex technology from development into reliable production environments. - Ability to balance short-term delivery with technical quality, scalability, and long-term engineering investment. - Strong product judgement and ability to connect engineering decisions with customer and business outcomes. - Excellent communication skills and the ability to create alignment across Engineering, Product, and company leadership. - Comfortable operating in an environment with ambiguity, technical uncertainty, and rapidly evolving priorities. - Pragmatic, low-ego leadership style with a strong sense of ownership and accountability. - Experience with autonomous systems, robotics, AI/ML, computer vision, real-time systems, edge computing, hardware/software integration, or other complex deep-tech products would be highly valued, but direct robotics experience is not essential. Benefits - Competitive salary with relocation support to Madeira - Equity/participation in Datamentors growth - Frontier work in Physical AI — humanoids, quadrupeds and mobile robots - Access to a real robot fleet (Unitree G1, Go2) and GPU compute - Conference and continuous-learning budget - Health insurance and flexible working
