Description
Systems Engineer (Technical Operations)
Join us and bring everything you have to solve the most fulfilling problems on the market. As a Gold accredited Investor in People, we have everything you need to propel your career to new heights. Inclusion is the beating heart of Alfa so whoever you are, you can show up as your best self-everyday.
What we'll do together
Our Technical Operations team keeps Alfa running, and our Systems Engineering team of nine sits right at its heart. They look after the cloud infrastructure behind Alfa, our virtual data centres, AWS, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, office networking, VPNs, Zoom, Splunk and Okta authentication, supporting every Alfa office around the world.
Based in our growing Smart Hub in Gdańsk, you'll join us in a project-focused role rather than a ticket queue. Around half of your time will go into improving the services we provide and implementing new ones. You'll take ownership of our Okta platform beyond day-to-day administration, building new integrations with internal systems such as our HRIS and finding ways to make it even better. You'll also help shape where our cloud infrastructure goes next, including how we bring our AWS and VMware environments together into a consistent, well-managed cloud platform.
Alongside the project work, you'll handle operational escalations from our Service Desk, keep our services patched and healthy, and plan for capacity and scale.
How we'll work together
We don't just follow the playbook, we write it. You'll take a high-level view of a problem rather than reacting to individual issues, then design the solution, test it and refine it until it's ready to hand over as a planned, process-driven change, complete with clear documentation and standard operating procedures.
You'll report to our Systems Engineering Manager and work independently on technical projects, collaborating with other project teams, our third-party vendors and colleagues across our global offices. Everyone in the team works as a generalist across the services we maintain, so there's always something new to learn and you'll help coach more junior team members as they grow.
The tools we'll use
AWS, VMware, Okta, Microsoft 365 and Azure, Google Workspace, Active Directory, Exchange, Splunk and Zoom, alongside Windows and Linux servers, Terraform, Ansible, containerisation and process automation tooling, and core network infrastructure such as Cisco, Palo Alto and HP Aruba.
What you'll bring to the team
- Proven experience in a systems engineering, infrastructure or IT operations role in an organisation of a similar size, ideally having moved on from a 2nd line or Service Desk background into operations work
- Degree-level technical IT knowledge
- Hands-on experience with at least four of: AWS, VMware, Okta, Azure/M365, Active Directory, Exchange, Google Workspace, Splunk, Windows or Linux server management, Terraform, Ansible, containerisation, process automation tooling or core network infrastructure
- Okta or identity management experience that goes beyond adding users; configuration, integrations with other internal systems and ideas for improvement. If you've worked with another identity tool and understand the concepts, we'd love to hear from you
- Cloud infrastructure experience, particularly AWS, and an interest in bringing hybrid and VMware environments together into well-managed cloud infrastructure
- A track record of delivering planned, process-driven changes – designing, building and testing solutions until they're ready to hand over
- Strong independent problem-solving and a strategic mindset: you look at the bigger picture and focus on work that adds lasting value
- Solid networking fundamentals
What we'll do for you
- Flexible hybrid working
- 20 days' annual leave plus bank holidays
- Comprehensive Private Medical Insurance with LuxMed
- Life, disability and worldwide travel insurance
- Gym scheme with Multisport
- Support pursuing membership of professional bodies
- 5 days per year for conferences or training
- 3 paid days of volunteering per year
