Senior Director Infrastructure & Cloud Architecture

We are looking for a Senior Director, Infrastructure & Cloud Architecture to shape the technology foundation of a rapidly growing global pharmaceutical organization. Client Details A rapidly growing global biopharmaceutical company focused on developing innovative and more affordable medicines. Description This is a newly created, highly strategic role at the intersection of infrastructure strategy, cloud architecture and technical leadership. The organization has strong engineering and operational capabilities and is now looking for a senior architectural leader to define the target state, establish technology standards and roadmaps, and guide teams toward scalable, secure and modern infrastructure. You will work across cloud, infrastructure, networking, automation, security, data/AI, enterprise architecture and engineering, with significant influence over technology investment and transformation priorities. This is not a traditional infrastructure operations or solution architecture role. We are looking for someone who can define what the enterprise architecture should become and why, and then translate that vision into an executable roadmap. Key responsibilities - Define the global infrastructure and cloud architecture strategy, target state and multi-year roadmap. - Establish enterprise architecture principles, standards, reference architectures and governance. - Lead the modernization of a complex AWS and Azure hybrid/multi-cloud environment, including global and China architectures. - Shape cloud foundations, landing zones, networking, security, automation, workload placement and FinOps. - Define infrastructure architecture to support AI, GPU/accelerated computing, data/AI platforms and edge computing. - Provide architectural direction across engineering teams, technical leads, vendors and strategic technology partners. - Influence technology selection, vendor strategy, investment decisions and modernization priorities. - Identify technical debt, architectural risks and opportunities for rationalization. - Lead and develop architecture resources while exercising strong matrixed influence across the wider technology organization. Profile We are looking for a technology leader with deep infrastructure engineering foundations who has progressed into architecture and enterprise technology strategy. You should bring: - 12+ years of progressive IT experience. - 7+ years of technical leadership experience. - Proven experience defining enterprise infrastructure/cloud strategy and target-state architecture. - Strong infrastructure and cloud architecture expertise, including hybrid and multi-cloud environments. - Experience with global, complex technology environments and large-scale transformation. - Strong understanding of networking, compute, storage, identity, security, automation, resilience and modern cloud platforms. - Experience establishing architecture standards, reference designs, roadmaps and governance. - Ability to influence highly technical teams without relying solely on direct reporting authority. - Strong executive communication, stakeholder management and financial/vendor management skills. - Excellent English communication skills. Strongly preferred: - experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, healthcare or another regulated industry. - Experience across AWS and Azure, China environments, Infrastructure-as-Code, FinOps, AI/GPU infrastructure and edge computing will be particularly valuable.
