Description

Filtronic is seeking to appoint a Principal RF Engineer to join our high performing team based at our Cambridge site, to work on a range of exciting products from concept through to production. With a wide range of design tools, experienced engineers and in-house RF/mmWave manufacturing capabilities, you will play a key role in the design and delivery of new products as part of the Filtronic team. Our products range from low volume niche opportunity devices to high volume telecommunications and defence equipment. Purpose of Role: Responsible for leading the design of RF/mmW elements and systems, ensuring that electrical performance, quality, cost and manufacturability requirements are met. The Principal RF Engineer will provide technical leadership across design activities, support project delivery and help develop best practice within the engineering team. Summary of responsibilities: - Lead the design and development of RF/mmW sub-circuits, sub-modules and systems within telecommunications and defence products. - Take technical responsibility for RF/mmW specification, design, simulation, realisation and verification. - Provide technical guidance and support to other engineers within the team. - Carry out system line-up analysis, tolerance analysis and design for manufacture. - Support the selection of components, ICs and MMICs, including liaison with suppliers where required. - Work closely with mechanical, electronics, PCB layout, manufacturing and test teams to deliver robust product designs. - Prepare and review design documentation, including design logbooks, data packs, peer reviews and design release information. - Lead and participate in design reviews, identifying and managing technical risks. - Support design verification and validation, including test specifications, test reports and reliability testing. - Support problem solving and fault diagnosis during product introduction and production. - Ensure designs are delivered in line with project technical, schedule and cost requirements. Requirements - Relevant degree or equivalent professional experience, preferably in RF, Microwave, Electronics or Communications Engineering - Proven experience in RF/mmWave circuit or system design - Experience using RF design tools such as Microwave Office, CST, EMPro or ADS - Knowledge of microwave circuit design, system line-up analysis, tolerance and yield analysis, and design for manufacture - Experience in the design of transceivers, amplifiers, filters, modules or subsystems would be beneficial - Ability to lead technical activities and contribute to the development and mentoring of other engineers - Demonstrable problem-solving skills and a practical approach to delivering engineering solutions - Ability to communicate technical information clearly and work collaboratively with engineering, manufacturing and project teams Benefits - Salary benchmarked at the top end of the market range to attract the strongest candidates - 37.5 hour working week - 25 days' holiday plus public holidays, with the option to buy up to 5 additional days - Contributory pension scheme with up to 8% company contribution - Life Assurance - Income Protection Insurance - Save As You Earn (SAYE) share scheme - Electric Vehicle (EV) scheme - Cycle to Work scheme - Volunteering day - Learning and development opportunities - Hybrid working available Want to Know More?
