Description

Role Description The VP of Engineering / Engineering Director / Technology Delivery Lead provides strategic and operational leadership for software engineering, technical delivery, and technology-platform development. This role ensures that engineering teams build reliable, scalable, secure, and high-quality products and services while delivering technology roadmaps that support customer needs, commercial priorities, and long-term business growth. The position works closely with Product, Architecture, Data, Cloud, Security, Design, Quality Assurance, Operations, Finance, and executive leadership. Responsibilities include defining engineering strategy, planning delivery roadmaps, managing technical execution, setting quality and reliability standards, overseeing system architecture, developing engineering talent, managing delivery risks, and ensuring that teams deliver on agreed scope, timelines, budgets, and outcomes. At leadership level, the role establishes engineering operating models, technical standards, delivery governance, performance metrics, and continuous-improvement practices. It leads and develops engineering leaders and teams, manages technical debt and platform investment, strengthens collaboration across functions, and provides senior stakeholders with clear insight into delivery progress, technology risks, resource needs, and strategic trade-offs. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field. - Master’s degree, MBA, or equivalent advanced technical and leadership experience is an advantage. - Significant experience in software engineering, technology delivery, engineering management, platform development, or a related field. - Proven experience leading large engineering teams, multiple delivery squads, complex technology programmes, or customer-facing digital products. - Strong understanding of software-development lifecycles, system architecture, APIs, distributed systems, cloud platforms, data integration, and scalable application design. - Experience developing engineering strategies, technology roadmaps, operating models, delivery plans, and technical standards. - Strong knowledge of agile, Scrum, Kanban, DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, release management, and modern engineering practices. - Experience managing technical delivery across product development, platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, data, security, quality assurance, and operations. - Ability to set and monitor engineering metrics such as delivery predictability, system availability, reliability, performance, quality, defect rates, cycle time, and team productivity. - Experience with cloud environments, containers, infrastructure as code, observability, incident management, resilience, and security-by-design principles. - Ability to assess technical debt, architecture risks, capacity constraints, vendor dependencies, and technology-investment trade-offs. - Experience leading, mentoring, recruiting, and developing engineering managers, technical leads, architects, and software engineers. - Strong commercial and financial awareness, including budget management, headcount planning, vendor evaluation, and technology-investment prioritisation. - Excellent stakeholder-management, communication, strategic-thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. - Ability to lead effectively through rapid growth, changing priorities, complex delivery dependencies, and organisational transformation.
