Founding Principal Engineer / Technical Lead — Real-Time Communications London, UK | Hybrid, 2–3 days in person | Founding Engineering Team We have the network. We have the product. Now we need exceptional engineers to build the infrastructure. Real estate is one of the world’s largest industries, yet professional communication, market data and transactions remain fragmented across brokerages, countries and disconnected systems. AgentWise is building the global communications, market intelligence and agentic AI infrastructure for real estate. We began by proving the professional network before launching the software. We have an active international community, demonstrated cross-brokerage collaboration and an existing Flutter/Django mobile application in private beta. Our ambition goes far beyond another property app. We’re building a neutral professional operating layer that connects real-estate professionals, captures permissioned live market activity, combines it with historical data and develops the professional graph needed for intelligent matching, Market Memory and AI agents. Think the ambition of Harvey’s vertical AI — applied to the global property industry, starting with communications. The immediate challenge: ship V1. We have recovered the existing application source code from our external development agency. We are now bringing engineering ownership in-house. We need a hands-on technical leader who can understand the inherited system, fix what needs fixing, secure the infrastructure and get the product reliably into the App Store. We are not starting from scratch. And we are not looking for someone whose first recommendation is to rewrite everything. What you’ll own * Take technical ownership of our existing Flutter/Dart mobile app and Python/Django backend. * Reproduce builds, review architecture, resolve release blockers and ship production-quality code. * Own GitHub, code reviews, CI/CD, Firebase, Google Cloud, Apple/TestFlight, security, observability and deployment. * Work closely with a specialist messaging/mobile engineer to deliver outstanding one-to-one chats, group Rooms and professional communication. * Ensure reliable real-time delivery, push notifications, offline synchronisation, performance, permissions and scalability. * Lead the technical execution of V1 while designing the foundations for the next generation of data intelligence and agentic AI. The technology Current codebase: Flutter, Dart, Python, Django, Django REST Framework, Django Channels, WebSockets, PostgreSQL, Redis, Celery, Firebase and Google Cloud. We’re interested in engineers who have operated real systems, understand complex integrations and can make intelligent technical decisions under pressure. Who we’re looking for You might currently be a Principal Engineer, Staff Engineer, Lead Engineer, hands-on CTO or exceptional Founding Engineer. You should have: * Personally built, released and maintained production software. * Strong backend and distributed-systems experience, ideally Python/Django. * Experience working with mobile engineers and production iOS/Android releases. * Excellent understanding of GitHub, pull requests, testing, cloud infrastructure and security. * The ability to diagnose inherited codebases, prioritise defects and ship reliably. * The judgment to distinguish what needs engineering now from what can wait. Especially interesting: engineers from communications and collaboration companies such as WhatsApp, Meta Messenger, Slack, Signal, Telegram, Discord, Microsoft Teams, Intercom, Stream, Sendbird, Ably or similar environments. Previous experience with real-time messaging, offline systems, event delivery and mobile communication at scale is a significant advantage. Location and working arrangement This position requires regular collaboration in London, approximately 2–3 days per week in person. It is not a fully remote outsourcing role.
