Engineering Manager (Projects)
Location: Castlebar, Co. Mayo
Job Type: Permanent
A leading life sciences manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to join their team in Castlebar, Co. Mayo.
This is a high-impact leadership position reporting to the Head of Engineering, with responsibility for leading a team of engineers and overseeing the delivery of major engineering projects from initial feasibility through to FAT, SAT, OQ and PQ.
The successful candidate will play a key role in driving engineering excellence, continuous improvement and capital project delivery within a highly automated and regulated manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Technical Leadership
- Lead engineering projects from initial concept and feasibility through to successful delivery.
- Provide technical leadership and support in the resolution of complex engineering challenges.
- Drive continuous improvement, operational efficiency and innovation across the site.
- Support the development and implementation of highly automated manufacturing solutions, including robotic systems.
Project Management
- Manage multiple engineering and capital projects simultaneously, ensuring delivery on time and within budget.
- Manage departmental capital and overhead expenditure.
- Coordinate with internal teams, consultants, suppliers and other key stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
- Ensure projects meet required standards for safety, quality, compliance, cost and efficiency.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor and develop a team of engineers within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.
- Coordinate the engineering team in planning and executing complex project activities.
- Establish clear priorities, responsibilities and deliverables across the engineering function.
- Develop team members' technical capabilities, business understanding and professional skills.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline, such as Mechanical, Electrical or Biomedical Engineering.
- 8+ years' engineering experience within a highly automated and regulated manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience managing, supervising or leading engineering/technical teams.
- Strong project management experience, ideally involving significant capital projects.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of automated manufacturing processes and engineering systems.
- Experience with robotics or high-speed automated equipment would be advantageous.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to balance cost, compliance, quality and productivity.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical and decision-making skills.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and MS Project.
- Experience with engineering/design software such as AutoCAD would be advantageous.
