Description

About ELTEMATE ELTEMATE is a Hogan Lovells legal technology company. We make clients’ lives easier by delivering practical solutions to complex, everyday legal problems. We combine a deep understanding of legal work with the speed and ambition of a technology company. Our portfolio spans artificial intelligence, eDiscovery, information analysis, regulatory intelligence, deal rooms, workflow and case management, document automation, risk assessment, reporting, and legal applications. The Role We are looking for a passionate Senior AI Engineer to design, build, and operate intelligent products in the age of agentic software development. You will develop AI systems that can reason, use tools, retrieve knowledge, automate workflows, and collaborate effectively with people. Working closely with product managers, legal experts, and software engineers, you will turn rapidly evolving AI capabilities into reliable, secure, and genuinely useful products. This role is ideal for someone who combines curiosity about emerging AI with strong software-engineering discipline. You enjoy moving quickly, communicating clearly, taking ownership, and shipping solutions that solve real-world problems. What You’ll Do - Design, build, and operate agentic AI applications, workflows, and services. - Develop systems using foundation models, open-weight models, retrieval, tool use, structured outputs, and multi-step orchestration. - Evaluate model and agent behavior for quality, reliability, latency, cost, safety, and business impact. - Write clean, maintainable, production-ready Python for inference, data processing, APIs, evaluation, and deployment. - Build guardrails, human-in-the-loop controls, observability, and failure-recovery mechanisms for AI systems. - Develop APIs and integrate AI capabilities into existing products and backend services. - Select the right model for each use case, balancing proprietary and open-weight alternatives. - Prototype quickly, validate ideas with users, and turn successful experiments into scalable products. - Monitor production systems and continuously improve their accuracy, robustness, and performance. - Collaborate across engineering, product, legal, security, and data teams. - Contribute to technical direction, engineering standards, and responsible AI practices. - Use AI-assisted development tools thoughtfully to increase delivery speed without compromising quality. What We’re Looking For - At least three years of professional experience with Python, machine learning, or AI engineering. - Strong Python skills and solid knowledge of software architecture, algorithms, data structures, testing, and API design. - Hands-on experience building applications with large language models or other foundation models. - Experience with agentic patterns such as tool calling, retrieval-augmented generation, planning, memory, workflow orchestration, or multi-agent systems. - Experience evaluating AI systems using automated tests, benchmarks, human review, and production feedback. - Familiarity with open-weight models, including model selection, serving, fine-tuning, quantization, or optimization. - Experience deploying and maintaining production services using technologies such as FastAPI, Docker, and Kubernetes. - Knowledge of MLOps and modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, observability, versioning, experimentation, and model monitoring. - Experience with at least one major cloud platform: AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. - Awareness of AI security, privacy, governance, and responsible deployment. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical decisions to non-technical colleagues. - An ownership mindset: you clarify the problem, make sound decisions, follow through, and ship meaningful outcomes. Preferred Experience - Experience applying AI to legal, regulated, security-sensitive, or document-intensive domains. - Familiarity with unstructured documents, semantic search, knowledge graphs, or document intelligence. - Experience running or optimizing large models at scale. - Knowledge of distributed systems and high-availability service design. - Experience with Rust, Go, or C++ for performance-critical components. - Contributions to open-source AI or machine-learning projects. - Experience conducting red-team exercises or building safeguards for AI applications. What We Offer - A competitive salary and benefits package. - Flexible working hours and a remote-friendly culture. - The opportunity to build practical AI products with meaningful real-world impact. - Access to cutting-edge technologies and challenging legal and enterprise use cases. - A talented, collaborative, and international team. - An environment where initiative is encouraged and your contributions directly shape our products. Equal Opportunity ELTEMATE is an equal-opportunity employer. We do not discriminate against any employee or applicant based on race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, sex, disability, veteran status, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
